The stem cell bill that was most in the news was H.R. 810. H.R. 810 was a recent bill in Congress which proposed expanding federal funding of stem cell research to include funding for research that utilized leftover embryos from fertility clinics that would otherwise be discarded. The bipartisan bill was passed in both the House and the Senate but was vetoed by President Bush in August, 2006. H.R. 3 is the same bill in the new congress which passed the House on January 11, 2007 and will be up for a vote in the Senate.
